The word Ayurveda is made up of two components – ‘Ayur’ means ‘Life’ and ‘Veda’ means ‘Science’. Thus Ayurveda literally means, ‘the science of life’. This ancient system of medicine dates back to the Vedic period about 5000. Brahma (God), the Creator of the Universe is believed to be the originator of this system. From Brahma it passed on to the Rishis through Indra. From there it was promoted among the people for generations.
